Fresh Faces Elected to Maldives Media Council: A New Era Begins

Today, new members were elected to the Maldives Media Council (MMC). This election was organized to choose new representatives as the current council’s term will end this Saturday. Voting took place this morning at the Social Center.

A total of 22 candidates from both media outlets and the public participated in the election, with 139 media organizations casting their votes.

The seven individuals elected by media organizations are Fathimath Shana Mohamed from Mihaaru (118 votes), Najah Masood from Vaguthu (117 votes), Hassan Shakir from Aafathis (93 votes), Hafsy Abdulla from Hafsy.com (75 votes), Hussain Shageef from Thiladhun (74 votes), Hussain Hassan from 27 Online (74 votes), and Fathimath Nahudha Faiz from Dhiyares (71 votes).

From the general public, lawyer Ibrahim Fauzy received 80 votes, former MMC Legal Head Fathimath Fahumy secured 76 votes, and former journalist Ibrahim Mohamed earned 49 votes.

Earlier in the week, some candidates had raised concerns about alterations to the voter list, but it is important to mention that today’s voting went smoothly without any issues.
