Leadership Overhaul: Government Removes PCB President

In an unexpected move, Hamdhy Ageel has been dismissed from his role as President of the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) as of last night. Appointed on November 22, 2023, Ageel’s tenure lasted approximately 15 months.

The PCB, established under the Privatization and Corporatization Act, is responsible for overseeing the privatization, corporatization, monitoring, and evaluation of state-owned enterprises in the Maldives.

The reasons for Ageel’s dismissal have not been officially disclosed. Prior to leading the PCB, Ageel held positions such as Managing Director of Maldives Road Development Corporation and Fuel Supply Maldives.

As of now, the government has not released an official statement regarding Ageel’s dismissal.
