Organizing Secretary Misbah Shareef Apprehended Amidst Taxi Driver Protests

By Ahmed Ashraf Published December 13, 2024

The organizing secretary of the Drivers’ Association, Misbah Shareef, was apprehended late this evening following a court directive. Sources indicate that the police executed the arrest near the Nala Taxi Center in Hulhumale. Notably, a viral social media video shows Misbah’s vehicle being towed after remaining parked on Thursday.

The specific reasons for Misbah’s detention remain undisclosed at this time. This development follows the recent police crackdown on a protest by taxi drivers in Hulhumale last Wednesday, which led to the arrest of three participants. While one individual has been released, two remain in police custody.

The protests stem from growing dissatisfaction among Male’ area taxi drivers regarding governmental policies affecting their services. The unrest highlights ongoing tensions between drivers and authorities as they navigate regulatory challenges.
