President Muizzu extends warm wishes to China on lunar new year

In a gesture of goodwill, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has conveyed heartfelt greetings to China’s leadership and its citizens in celebration of the Spring Festival and Chinese New Year. In separate letters addressed to President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, President Muizzu extended best wishes on behalf of the Maldivian government and its people.

Emphasizing the Maldives’ steadfast commitment to the One-China Principle, President Muizzu highlighted the importance of strengthening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two nations. He underscored the mutual benefits of bolstering bilateral ties and expressed a desire for continued prosperity and progress for the Chinese populace.

The diplomatic relationship between the Maldives and China was officially established on October 14, 1972. Over the past five decades, both countries have engaged in various collaborative endeavors, including significant infrastructure projects like the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge, which opened in 2018. This bridge stands as a testament to the enduring partnership between the two nations.

In addition to his formal letters, President Muizzu shared his festive greetings on his official ‘X’ account, further demonstrating the close ties and mutual respect between the Maldives and China.

This exchange of pleasantries reflects the ongoing commitment of both nations to deepen their cooperation and friendship as they look forward to future collaborative opportunities.
