President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed heartfelt condolences to the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Heydar oglu Aliyev, following a tragic plane crash near Aktau that claimed multiple lives and left several others injured.

In a message sent on Wednesday, President Muizzu conveyed his deep sadness and shock over the incident. He extended his sympathies to the government and people of Azerbaijan, particularly to the survivors and those affected, as they cope with the aftermath of the tragedy.

The accident involved an Azerbaijan Airlines flight carrying 67 passengers en route from Azerbaijan to Russia. The plane crashed in Kazakhstan, where rescue teams managed to save 27 individuals, including two children. Those rescued are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital, according to Kazakhstan’s Transport Ministry.

Details regarding fatalities and injuries remain undisclosed, and no official comments have been made by any of the countries involved about the cause of the crash. However, Russia’s aviation authority reported that initial findings suggest the pilot attempted an emergency landing after a bird struck one of the aircraft’s propellers.

The tragic incident has drawn condolences and support from leaders worldwide as Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan work together to manage the situation and provide assistance to survivors and the families of victims.
