President Muizzu orders nationwide drug raid as over 80 arrested and 100 locations raided

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 21 hours ago

A sweeping nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking is underway across the Maldives after President Dr Mohamed Muizzu ordered a special operation mobilising more than 500 police officers for simultaneous raids in over 100 locations. Reliable sources confirmed that the operation has already progressed swiftly, with more than 100 sites searched and over 80 individuals arrested within hours of deployment.

In a public message, President Muizzu stated that the administration is working diligently to build a Maldives completely free from the scourge of drugs, highlighting the scale of the problem and the urgency of decisive action. He instructed the Maldives Police Service to launch a targeted operation focused on dismantling trafficking networks that continue to fuel addiction and community harm.

The coordinated operation spans multiple atolls and includes intelligence driven searches, property inspections and targeted arrests linked to ongoing investigations. Police teams have been deployed to both urban centres and remote islands, reflecting what officials describe as one of the largest anti drug enforcement actions in recent years.

Police are expected to release further details as the operation continues. Senior officials say the crackdown is part of a broader strategy to enhance public safety, strengthen border controls and support the government’s long term anti narcotics policy.
