Qasim Ibrahim Slams False Allegations of Secret Judicial Plot at Royal Island

By Ahmed Ashraf Published March 8, 2025

In a firm rebuttal, Qasim Ibrahim, esteemed owner of Royal Island Resort and leader of the Jumhooree Party, has categorically denied allegations of clandestine meetings purportedly held at his resort. The accusations, disseminated by the website ‘Dhiyavaru’, claim that Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan and Parliament Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim convened secretly at Royal Island Resort this past January to strategize against certain Supreme Court judges.

According to ‘Dhiyavaru’s’ article, the alleged meetings aimed to undermine Supreme Court Judge Husnu Al Suood, who recently resigned, and two currently suspended judges, Mahaz Ali Zahir and Dr. Azmiralda Zahir. The article further insinuated that Mohamed Shihab, an advisor to former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, was also in attendance.

Taking to the platform ‘X’ to address these claims, Qasim Ibrahim refuted the allegations as unfounded and malicious. He emphasized that such fabrications are the work of individuals intent on sowing discord within society.

Qasim Ibrahim presented clear evidence to counter the allegations:

  • He has not visited Royal Island Resort in the past three years.
  • Neither Mohamed Shihab nor Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan have visited the resort in the past two years.

“Therefore, I call on the relevant authorities to stop such false stories that are being spread and continue to be spread in online newspapers for political purposes without any truth, in a way that creates discord among the people by connecting me, former Parliament Speaker Shihab, the Chief Justice, and the Deputy Speaker of Parliament,” Qasim stated.

This controversy arises amidst heightened tensions following the suspension of three Supreme Court judges linked to an ongoing Judicial Service Commission (JSC) investigation. Notably, Judge Husnu Al Suood tendered his resignation last week, intensifying discussions about the judiciary’s current state.

Qasim Ibrahim’s prompt and transparent response underscores his commitment to truth and the integrity of national institutions. As the situation develops, his steadfastness serves as a reminder of the importance of factual reporting and the detrimental effects of unfounded allegations on public trust.
