To mark Maldives Engineers’ Day, Maldives Polytechnic students were given a first-hand look at the power behind the nation during a special career guidance programme organised by State Electric Company (STELCO) in partnership with the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure and the Ministry of Education.
The initiative brought students into STELCO’s facilities, where they explored the company’s operations and gained practical insights into how engineers contribute to keeping the Maldives running. From maintaining essential infrastructure to powering communities, STELCO highlighted the crucial part engineers play in national progress.
Officials explained that the visit was designed not only to inspire students but also to underline the growing opportunities in technical and engineering fields. The programme included interactive sessions with industry professionals, allowing students to ask questions, learn about career pathways, and understand the skills needed to thrive in the sector.
STELCO stressed that the programme reflects its commitment to nurturing young talent and encouraging more Maldivians to enter technical professions. “Our engineers are nation-builders, and it is essential that we guide the next generation to take up this mantle,” a company representative said.
The event wrapped up with students being encouraged to see engineering as a career that directly shapes the country’s development and future resilience.
