By Ahmed Ashraf Published September 27, 2025

Bank of Maldives (BML) has officially expanded its self-service banking network to every inhabited island in Thaa Atoll, marking another milestone in its nationwide “Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM” initiative.

The latest ATM service was inaugurated today in Th. Gaadhiffushi during a ceremony attended by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Cabinet Ministers, BML Chairperson Ahmed Ali Habeeb, CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef, along with senior executives of the bank.

Speaking at the event, BML CEO Mohamed Shareef highlighted the significance of the rollout:

“With the completion of Thaa Atoll, we now celebrate the availability of ATM services in all inhabited islands of 15 atolls under our Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM initiative. ATMs have played a crucial role in integrating customers into the formal banking system, and while expanding our physical network, we remain equally committed to strengthening our digital banking services”.

Strengthening Financial Access Nationwide

This expansion further cements BML’s role as the Maldives’ leading financial services provider. The bank now operates 42 branches across all 20 atolls, 179 Self Service Banking Centres, 237 ATMs, alongside a comprehensive suite of digital banking solutions.

The “Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM” programme is designed to bring convenient financial services closer to island communities, reducing reliance on travel to regional hubs and enabling greater participation in the formal economy.

Strategic Outlook

By aligning physical infrastructure with digital innovation, BML continues to address both immediate accessibility needs and long-term financial inclusion goals. The bank’s nationwide footprint and ongoing digital transformation underscore its pivotal role in supporting community development and economic growth across the Maldives.
