MWSC Delivers on President Muizzu’s Water Security Vision with Projects Nationwide

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 7 hours ago

The Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has reported steady progress across multiple infrastructure projects aimed at improving access to safe water and modern sewerage systems in key islands nationwide.

In Addu City, significant strides are being made under the Water Supply System Upgrade Project. According to MWSC, foundation beam and column reinforcement works are currently underway for the boundary wall in S. Hulhumeedhoo, while S. Hithadhoo is witnessing parallel progress with the foundation works for the reverse osmosis (RO) building and plastering of boundary walls.

Meanwhile, in the N. Magoodhoo Water and Sewerage Project, MWSC teams are conducting excavation and ground compaction works for the foundation of the island’s new water storage tank. This stage is critical to ensuring long-term structural stability and system efficiency once the installation phase begins.

The state utility has also reached a milestone in the Hdh. Kulhudhuffushi Zero-Carbon Desalination Project, a pioneering initiative that integrates renewable energy into desalination processes to minimize carbon emissions. MWSC confirmed that the RO plant and associated components have been fully loaded and are ready for dispatch to Kulhudhuffushi, signaling the imminent commencement of installation works.

In addition, MWSC announced that essential construction materials for the RO facility buildings and water storage tank foundations have been dispatched to multiple island project sites, including Sh. Bilehfahi, Sh. Noomaraa, N. Magoodhoo, and N. Miladhoo.

These coordinated efforts underscore MWSC’s ongoing commitment to supporting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration’s infrastructure and sustainability agenda — particularly its focus on enhancing essential public utilities across the atolls through innovation, energy efficiency, and local development.

Once completed, these projects are expected to significantly strengthen water security, reduce reliance on imported freshwater, and ensure sustainable service delivery for island communities across the Maldives.
