The Maldives Police Service has announced that a section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu on the northern side of Malé will be closed to general traffic starting October 25, 2025, to facilitate tarring works under the ongoing redevelopment project.
The closure is part of the government’s broader Boduthakurufaanu North Side Road Development Project, a major infrastructure initiative being carried out by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Plc (MTCC).
According to MTCC’s latest update issued on 9 October 2025, the company has successfully completed 100% of the quay wall capping concrete for Segment 1 of the project. The stormwater management system’s pump station well has also been cast, with installation works currently underway. MTCC further confirmed that carriageway development has commenced, with sub-grade works ongoing and the delivery and installation of drainage system components scheduled to begin this week.
MTCC described the project as a transformative development aimed at enhancing accessibility in Malé City through the creation of modern, pedestrian-friendly, and flood-resilient roads. The company stated that the widened roads will ease traffic congestion while the new stormwater drainage network will significantly reduce flooding during heavy rainfall — ensuring safer, more durable infrastructure for all road users.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who inspected the project in September, highlighted that the upgraded Boduthakurufaanu Magu will feature dual lanes in both directions, underground utilities, and modern lighting systems, aligning with his administration’s vision for a safer, more efficient capital road network.
Police have urged motorists to follow on-ground signage and detour routes during the closure period and to expect temporary traffic delays.
