President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially opened the newly established powerhouse in K. Dhiffushi, bringing a major upgrade to the island’s electricity capacity and long term service reliability.
The inauguration took place today as part of the President’s ongoing tour of Kaafu Atoll. He was joined by STELCO Managing Director Ahmed Shamah Rasheed and senior officials of the company, celebrating the successful completion of a crucial infrastructure enhancement for the community.

Construction of the facility began on 26 June 2024 and has now been completed ahead of the original schedule, reflecting strong delivery of national development commitments.
Dhiffushi previously relied on a powerhouse with a capacity of 2.2 megawatts, equal to 2,200 kilowatts. The newly opened facility boosts available power to an installable capacity of 7 megawatts, equal to 7,000 kilowatts, ensuring a more resilient and future ready supply of electricity for residents, tourism operations and local businesses.

The upgraded powerhouse complex includes a modern engine room, a control room, an office area and an accommodation block for technical staff. It also features a dedicated customer service building and a secure boundary enclosure to support smooth and safe operations.
This advancement in energy infrastructure is expected to accelerate Dhiffushi’s growth and improve the quality of everyday life for its people, positioning the island for continued social and economic progress.
