President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has inaugurated a new island-wide water system in K. Thulusdhoo, marking a major enhancement to public services in the community. The project was carried out by the State Electric Company Limited, STELCO, under the assignment of the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure.
During the visit to Thulusdhoo, the President was joined by STELCO Managing Director Ahmed Shamah Rasheed and senior officials to celebrate the achievement. The investment supports government efforts to modernize essential infrastructure across Kaafu Atoll.
The initiative included the design and installation of two reverse osmosis plants with production capacity of 200 tons each, two RO storage tanks with a total capacity of 2,800 tons, and a 1,200 ton raw water tank. More than 17,000 meters of water network lines were laid to ensure efficient coverage.
A total of 350 households now benefit from the upgraded supply. The project began on 29 December 2021, was commissioned on 19 October 2025, and officially began service on 28 October 2025. The final cost reached MVR 50,888,210.00.
The water system is expected to provide long term security for residents, support tourism growth, and reduce pressure on existing limited water resources as Thulusdhoo continues to expand.
