Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking during his official visit to Bhutan, issued a firm warning that “all those responsible will be brought to justice” following a car explosion near the Red Fort metro station in New Delhi, which killed at least eight people and injured around 20.

Modi described the incident as “horrific” and confirmed he had been in constant touch with investigative agencies overnight. He pledged that the security apparatus would “get to the bottom of this conspiracy” and ensure that “the conspirators … will not be spared.”

Police in Delhi have registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and related explosives laws, signalling a terrorism-linked investigation.

The explosion occurred at approximately 6.52 pm when a car stopped at a signal near one of the city’s most heavily guarded monuments, setting off a fireball that damaged nearby vehicles and triggered major disruption.

Authorities say the probe is in its early stages but forensic teams and national investigators have been mobilised. The firm message from the Prime Minister underscores the administration’s resolve to hold perpetrators accountable and strengthen national security frameworks.

For the Maldives, and other Indian-Ocean neighbours, the incident highlights the growing significance of regional intelligence cooperation and cross-border security alignment.
