Fertility Support Community (FSC) Maldives has relaunched its advocacy work with a high profile fundraising gala in Male, unveiling a new nationwide initiative, the Patient Care Awards Maldives (PCA), to strengthen trust and communication between patients and healthcare providers.

Held at Meeruma Hall in Male on Monday evening, the second edition of the fundraising gala, branded ‘A Night of Hope’, marked FSC’s return to public advocacy after a year long pause. The NGO, registered in January 2021, is the first organisation in the Maldives dedicated to raising awareness on infertility, common diagnoses, and treatment options, while also providing psychosocial support to couples struggling to conceive. FSC has grown from an informal peer support group into a structured community with more than 460 members nationwide.

The highlight of the gala was the official launch of the Patient Care Awards and PCA Magazine by Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, who attended as chief guest. Designed as a signature platform of FSC, the PCA initiative aims to recognise best practices in healthcare and to give patients clearer, more reliable information about medical services in the country. The PCA Magazine is expected to serve as an educational tool for patients and the wider public on health services, treatment pathways, and patient rights.

In its inaugural recognition, the first PCA Award was conferred on Dr Naila Mohamed Didi, the Maldives’ first obstetrician and gynecologist and a cofounder of the Society for Health Education (SHE), the first NGO to advocate for sexual and reproductive health in the country. The recognition underscored Dr Naila’s long standing contribution to women’s health and her pioneering role in shaping reproductive healthcare services in the Maldives.
The event also saw the signing of a memorandum of understanding between India based Milann Speciality Hospitals and FSC, under which Milann will support one additional Maldivian couple with in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment over the coming year. The MoU was signed by FSC Founder and President Asha Hussain and Milann Fertility Hospitals Managing Director Anjali Ajaikumar, reinforcing cross border collaboration in specialised fertility care.
In her remarks, Asha highlighted that Yaami Fertility has contributed to FSC’s Family Fund, which is used to support couples in need of financial assistance for fertility treatment. She also expressed appreciation to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for introducing the 100 IVF Scheme through NSPA and Aasandha, describing the initiative and broader health sector reforms as an important step in expanding access to advanced fertility services for Maldivian couples.
Addressing guests at the gala, physician and endocrinologist Dr Siruhan spoke on the role of lifestyle changes in improving fertility outcomes and highlighted advances in global medical practice that are increasing success rates for infertility treatments. His intervention reinforced FSC’s message that infertility is a medical condition that can often be addressed through a combination of clinical care, early diagnosis, and healthy lifestyle choices.
FSC confirmed that applications for its 2026 IVF Fund have now closed. Looking ahead, the organisation plans to broaden its work beyond infertility through its second initiative, the Family Support Community, which will focus on advocacy and support for a wider range of health conditions affecting Maldivian families.
