President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of long serving STELCO supervisor Ahmed Azmeel, who succumbed to critical injuries sustained in last month’s Hulhumale B Powerhouse fire. Azmeel had been receiving advanced medical treatment overseas after being airlifted on a private charter arranged by the company.
In a message shared on social media, the President said he received the news of Azmeel’s passing with profound sadness and a heavy heart. He described the 43 year old employee as a diligent and dedicated member of the national utility provider who was injured while performing essential duties.
The President conveyed his deepest condolences to Azmeel’s family and to the management and staff of STELCO, noting that the entire organisation is mourning the loss of a respected colleague. He prayed for strength and patience for the bereaved family during this difficult period.
He further prayed that Almighty Allah grants Azmeel eternal peace and blessings in Jannatul Firdaus.
Azmeel had served more than two decades at STELCO and was critically injured on 26 November while technicians were working to resolve a power outage affecting parts of Hulhumale Phase 1. The fire prompted medical evacuation arranged by STELCO as part of the company’s commitment to employee care.
