By Ahmed Ashraf Published 22 hours ago

STELCO Managing Director Ahmed Shamah Rasheed has affirmed that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s vision of equitable opportunity for every citizen is now being realised, as the company formally appointed 30 new employees with disabilities at a ceremony held this morning. The event was graced by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, highlighting the Administration’s national commitment to inclusive employment.

Delivering his address, Mr Shamah said STELCO has long set the benchmark for institutions providing meaningful jobs for persons with disabilities, and today’s appointments mark the fulfilment of a major presidential pledge. He noted that the President’s mandate is to build a society where every individual, regardless of circumstance, has access to growth, income, and dignity.

According to Mr Shamah, STELCO already employed 50 persons with disabilities prior to today. With the addition of the 30 newly recruited staff, the company now supports 80 employees within its disability inclusive workforce. He stressed that these opportunities strengthen livelihoods, enhance skills development, and enable active participation in national development efforts.

He urged other institutions to follow the government’s compassionate example and extend similar opportunities, noting that inclusive hiring is both a social responsibility and an investment in national progress.

Under the Administration’s ongoing initiative to expand job opportunities for persons with disabilities, more than 350 individuals have been successfully employed across various sectors. Alongside STELCO’s latest recruitment, the Road Development Corporation and Maldives Ports Limited have also created dedicated employment pathways for persons with disabilities, solidifying a nationwide shift toward inclusive workforce development.
