Works on Phase 2 of the Malé North Side Boduthakurufaanu Road Development Project are progressing steadily, marking another visible step in the government’s push to modernise Malé City’s urban infrastructure.
According to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), sheet piling works are currently underway, while drainage systems and settlement tank construction have reached 50 percent completion. Curbstone installation has also commenced for the upgraded pedestrian lane, alongside the installation of new wastewater and water supply lines.
The project is designed to significantly enhance accessibility and safety along one of Malé’s key arterial corridors, transforming it into a modern, pedestrian-friendly roadway equipped to handle long-term urban demand. Improved drainage and utility systems are expected to reduce flooding risks and strengthen service reliability in the densely populated capital.
The development aligns with the broader urban transformation agenda of Dr Mohamed Muizzu, whose administration has prioritised resilient infrastructure, walkable city planning, and sustainable public works as core pillars of national development.
MTCC stated that construction activities are being carried out in phases to minimise disruption to daily life in Malé, while ensuring engineering standards that support durability and future expansion. Once completed, the project is expected to ease traffic flow, improve pedestrian safety, and elevate the overall urban experience for residents and businesses along the north side of Boduthakurufaanu Road.
The steady progress underscores the administration’s commitment to delivering tangible improvements to Malé City, translating national development vision into on-the-ground results for citizens.
