President Muizzu sets hopeful 2026 course, calls for unity, faith and national progress

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 7 hours ago

President Mohamed Muizzu has declared that the year ahead will bring tangible progress for the Maldivian people, expressing confidence that, by the grace of Allah, the nation will move closer to fulfilling the long-held aspirations of its citizens.

In his New Year address, the President underscored that Maldivians have repeatedly demonstrated an enduring commitment to development, prosperity and national advancement, a spirit he said is deeply rooted in the country’s history. He stressed that the central responsibility of his Administration is to cultivate capable and principled citizens, while driving forward a comprehensive development agenda that positions the Maldives firmly among developed nations.

Highlighting the broader historical context of the moment, President Muizzu noted that the new year marks 900 years since the Maldives embraced Islam, describing the anniversary as a milestone of profound significance for the present generation. He said the legacy of faith continues to shape the nation’s values, unity and resilience.

The President also called on citizens to use the New Year as a moment of reflection and renewal, urging individuals to consider the contributions they can make to themselves, their communities and the nation as a whole. He emphasised that collective resolve and personal responsibility remain essential to safeguarding the well-being and future prosperity of the Maldives.

The address forms part of the Administration’s broader message of optimism, discipline and shared purpose as the country enters a new year marked by both historic reflection and forward-looking ambition.
