The second segment of the Malé Northside Boduthakurufaanu Road Development Project is moving forward at pace, with Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) intensifying work to complete the upgrade ahead of Ramadan, in line with the pledge made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

Construction updates show that sheet piling works are currently underway, with 48 metres completed so far, while reclamation works are continuing in parallel to strengthen the project’s foundation. Above ground, visible progress is also accelerating, with pedestrian lane paving now started, signalling the shift towards shaping the public-facing structure of the upgraded roadway.
Meanwhile, utility works remain a key focus of the project, as sewer and water pipeline installations have now reached 50 percent completion, ensuring essential services are strengthened alongside the redevelopment.

The project forms part of a broader effort to modernise Malé City’s infrastructure and improve everyday mobility for residents, delivering safer, modern and pedestrian-friendly roads designed to enhance accessibility in the densely populated capital.
With public expectations already raised following improvements in earlier phases, the push to finish Segment 2 before Ramadan is seen as a high-priority delivery target tied closely to President Muizzu’s commitments on urban development and quality-of-life upgrades.
