President Muizzu Inspects Boduthakurufaanu Magu Works as Phase II Targets Pre-Ramadan Completion

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 3 hours ago

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu conducted an on-site inspection today to review progress on the Boduthakurufaanu Magu Road Development Project, reaffirming the administration’s focus on timely delivery of key urban infrastructure upgrades.

The President visited the active construction zone along the northern segment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, in the Fish Market area, to assess works underway under Phase II of the project. He was received on site by the Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr Abdulla Muththalib, who briefed him on current progress and upcoming milestones.

The second segment of the project covers the southern stretch of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, extending from the Fish Market area to the North Harbour. Planned works include road widening, installation of modern drainage systems, and the application of tarmac surface dressing. The Ministry has scheduled completion of the section between Izzuddin Jetty and the Fish Market ahead of Ramadan, in line with the President’s stated timeline.

The Boduthakurufaanu Magu development project was awarded to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) on 9 April 2025. Upon completion, the roadway will be upgraded to contemporary urban standards, increasing traffic capacity while improving safety and comfort for both motorists and pedestrians.

As part of earlier works, land reclamation enabled the expansion of the segment between the Fish Market and Izzuddin Jetty, adjacent to Republic Square. That stretch was widened to four lanes, completed with tarmac surfacing, and officially opened to the public in December 2025, setting the benchmark for the remaining phases now under construction.
