Greater Bay Airlines has commenced charter operations to the Maldives, further strengthening the country’s air connectivity with the East Asian region.
The airline’s inaugural service, flight HB2500, arrived at Velana International Airport on Thursday and was welcomed with a traditional water salute to mark the occasion. The first flight carried 174 passengers, signalling strong initial demand for the new route.

According to the airline, the charter services will operate directly between Hong Kong and Malé, utilising Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The new operations are expected to provide additional travel capacity and greater flexibility for travellers from the East Asian market.
With the launch, Greater Bay Airlines becomes the second carrier to introduce direct air services between Hong Kong and the Maldives, underscoring continued interest from the region in the island destination.
Tourism industry observers note that expanded charter connectivity is likely to support visitor arrivals and diversify source markets, particularly as airlines look to tap into growing demand from East Asia.
