The President’s Office has confirmed that official government working hours during the holy month of Ramadan and the first seven days of Shawwal will run from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, in line with standing national guidelines.
The announcement reinforces an existing directive first issued on March 6, 2022, which established that beginning from 1443 AH, state institutions would operate on reduced hours throughout Ramadan and the first week of Shawwal each year. The measure remains unchanged, ensuring continuity and predictability across all government offices.
By maintaining the four-hour work schedule during the sacred month, the administration aims to facilitate spiritual observance while safeguarding the uninterrupted delivery of essential public services. The structured timetable enables civil servants to balance professional responsibilities with religious commitments, reflecting a governance approach rooted in stability and respect for Islamic values.
The confirmation by the President’s Office provides clarity to public sector employees and service users nationwide, allowing ministries, departments, and state agencies to plan operations efficiently during the fasting period.
As Ramadan approaches, the government’s adherence to the established framework underscores its commitment to consistency in policy implementation and responsive administration aligned with the needs of Maldivian society.
