Ooredoo Maldives has been awarded the Ookla Speedtest Award for Best Fixed Network in the Maldives for the second half of 2025, becoming the first telecommunications provider in the country to receive the distinction.
The recognition was granted by Ookla, a global authority in network performance analytics. The award is based on independent analysis of consumer-initiated Speedtest data, using a Speed Score calculated from download speeds, upload performance, and network responsiveness. The methodology reflects real-world customer experience rather than controlled lab testing.
According to Ooredoo Maldives, the achievement validates years of sustained investment in fibre infrastructure, broadband expansion, and next-generation home connectivity solutions across the archipelago. Delivering consistent fixed network performance in a geographically dispersed nation like the Maldives presents unique engineering and logistical challenges, particularly in ensuring stability across island communities.
Shadi Qawasmi, Managing Director and CEO of Ooredoo Maldives, described the award as a significant milestone for the company and the country’s digital ecosystem. He stated that the operator’s network is designed to bridge islands, empower communities, and enable businesses to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital economy.
As the Maldives accelerates its digital transformation agenda, high-speed fixed broadband has become a critical enabler for economic diversification. Reliable connectivity supports tourism operations, financial technology services, remote work, online education, cloud adoption, and the broader growth of digital enterprises. Industry analysts note that network quality increasingly shapes competitiveness among telecom operators, particularly as consumer expectations for uninterrupted streaming, gaming, and enterprise-grade performance continue to rise.
The award is based on Ookla Speedtest Intelligence data for 2H 2025.
