Dhiraagu has secured international recognition after being crowned the Maldives’ Broadband Telecom Company of the Year at the Asian Telecom Awards 2026, marking another milestone for the country’s largest telecommunications provider.
The accolade acknowledges Dhiraagu’s achievement in delivering nationwide high speed fibre broadband access to every household across all inhabited islands in the Maldives, alongside full mobile broadband coverage. The announcement was made in a press release issued on 25 February 2026 by the company’s Brand and Marketing Communications division.
The Asian Telecom Awards celebrates standout telecom operators across the region that have driven measurable transformation in digital connectivity. Dhiraagu’s win places the Maldivian operator among leading regional players recognised for advancing infrastructure and digital inclusion.
Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ismail Rasheed described the award as a reflection of the company’s sustained investment in broadband expansion. He noted that Dhiraagu now provides mobile broadband coverage to 100 percent of the population, while its Fibre to the Home network is accessible to every residence on all inhabited islands.
In addition to its fibre rollout, Dhiraagu maintains full 4G broadband coverage across inhabited islands, resort islands and major industrial islands nationwide. The company’s 5G network currently reaches 73 percent of the population, reinforcing its push toward next generation connectivity.
The award follows a series of recent recognitions for Dhiraagu’s 5G performance. Based on Ookla Speedtest Intelligence data for the first half of 2025, the operator was named Fastest 5G Network, Best 5G Network and Best 5G Gaming Experience in the Maldives.
As demand for digital services accelerates across the archipelago, nationwide fibre coverage positions the Maldives among a small group of countries to achieve universal household broadband access. The milestone also aligns with broader national efforts to strengthen digital infrastructure, expand remote education and healthcare access, and support the country’s growing digital economy.
Dhiraagu stated that it remains committed to enhancing connectivity and enabling communities across the Maldives to take on tomorrow through reliable, high quality broadband services.
