Maldives condemns all attacks, demands urgent de-escalation in Middle East

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 3 hours ago

Maldives has expressed grave concern over the sharp escalation of military hostilities in the Middle East, as the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iranian targets, prompting retaliatory missile attacks by Iran that have sent shockwaves across the region.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maldives condemned attacks from all sides and called for an immediate halt to military operations. The Government warned that the unfolding confrontation is placing immense strain on the region, with Arab nations increasingly exposed to instability, security threats and humanitarian risks.

The statement stressed that the continued exchange of missile and air strikes risks widening the conflict beyond its current scope, endangering civilian populations and critical infrastructure across the Middle East. It urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and prioritize diplomacy over force.

Maldives called for the restoration of peace and stability, underscoring that all states must act in full respect of international law and their obligations under the United Nations Charter. The sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations, particularly those now facing direct and indirect consequences of the conflict, must be upheld at all times.

Reaffirming its longstanding foreign policy position, Maldives emphasized its commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes through dialogue and multilateral engagement. It highlighted the urgent need for collective international action to prevent further suffering in Arab countries already grappling with economic pressures and security challenges.

As tensions intensify, Maldives aligned itself with global calls for de-escalation, renewed negotiations and immediate efforts to shield civilians from the devastating impact of a widening regional war.
