Prominent figures from the Addu Hulhudhoo constituency formally joined the People’s National Congress in a high-profile ceremony held at Mulee’aage, in the presence of party leader and President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The event drew the participation of several senior PNC leaders and cabinet members, underscoring the political weight attached to the southern alignment. Among those present were PNC Deputy Leader and Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam, Eydhafushi MP and businessman Ahmed Saleem, PNC Deputy Leader and Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Falaah, Hulhudhoo MP Mohamed Shahid, and Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar, who also serves as a deputy leader of the ruling party.
During the ceremony, the Hulhudhoo leaders publicly expressed their support for President Muizzu and his policy direction, highlighting the development projects initiated since he assumed office. They praised the administration’s focus on infrastructure expansion, housing delivery, economic reform, and decentralised growth, stating that visible progress across the atolls had strengthened public confidence in the government.
President Muizzu welcomed the endorsement, describing it as a reflection of growing unity behind the government’s Maldives First policy and national development agenda. He noted that broader political alignment would help accelerate the implementation of key pledges and ensure that benefits reach communities across the country, particularly in the southern atolls.
Political observers view the move as a strategic consolidation of the ruling party’s influence in Addu City, reinforcing its grassroots presence ahead of local council elections.
