Fenaka Corporation has signed a new agreement with Definit Solutions to complete the long-delayed Central Power Station (CPS) in Addu City, marking a key step toward delivering a pledge made by Mohamed Muizzu to resolve the city’s electricity challenges.
The agreement was signed by Fenaka’s Managing Director Major (Retd.) Mohamed Najah and Definit Solutions Founder and CEO Abdulla Saeed. Under the contract, the Dubai-based firm will undertake all remaining works required to finalize the project, including the installation and commissioning of generator sets.
The project was initially contracted to Dongfang Electric International Corporation of China. However, the agreement was later terminated due to insufficient progress in accordance with the stipulated project terms.
Under the new arrangement, local agency and engineering coordination for the installation of the engines and the development of the new powerhouse will be handled by Mr. Saeed, who will serve as the local agency representative and engineer overseeing the technical aspects of the project in coordination with Fenaka. His role will be central to ensuring the smooth installation, integration, and operation of the new power generation systems. Mr. Saeed brings extensive engineering experience from projects carried out in both the Maldives and the United Arab Emirates.
The power station will be equipped with engines manufactured by Anglo Belgian Corporation, a renowned Belgian manufacturer of industrial engines. Unlike the high-speed engines currently used in Addu, these European-standard low-speed engines are designed for greater efficiency, durability, and long-term operational reliability.
Once completed, the facility will have a total power generation capacity of 26.37 megawatts, significantly strengthening electricity supply across Addu City.
Fenaka Managing Director Major (Retd.) Mohamed Najah stated that the project is scheduled for completion by the end of next year and will provide a sustainable and long-term solution to the electricity issues faced by residents and businesses in Addu City. The development is also expected to support economic growth in the southernmost city while delivering on a key commitment made to the people of Addu.
