MTCC Shifts Atoll Ferry Services to Villingili and Hulhumalé from Next Week

By Hussain Shinan Published 14 hours ago

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced that atoll ferry services currently operating from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal will be relocated to alternative terminals in Malé and Hulhumalé, as work begins on the next phase of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project.

According to MTCC, the change will come into effect from next Monday, with all ferries that previously departed from or arrived at the Henveiru Terminal redirected to the Maafannu (Villingili) Ferry Terminal and the Hulhumalé Ferry Terminal.

The relocation is being implemented to accommodate construction work linked to the third phase of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu modernisation project, which is set to commence this Saturday. As part of the works, the lagoon area stretching from the Official Jetty (Izzudheen Faalan) to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal will be temporarily closed to facilitate road expansion.

Officials say the ongoing project aims to upgrade one of Malé’s key arterial roads to modern standards, including asphalt paving and improved infrastructure to ease congestion and enhance connectivity.

Earlier phases of the redevelopment have already been completed, including the stretch from North Harbour to Republic Square (Jumhooree Maidhaan), which is currently open for public use.

The government has allocated MVR 144 million for the broader project, which is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and transport infrastructure in the capital.

MTCC has advised the public to take note of the terminal changes and to contact its hotline 1650 for further information regarding ferry schedules and operations.
