Veteran politician and leader of the Jumhooree Party, Qasim Ibrahim, has publicly endorsed Moosa Ali Jaleel in the race for Mayor of Malé City, throwing his support behind the candidate ahead of the upcoming local elections.
In a message shared on social media, Qasim confirmed that he is offering his full backing to Jaleel, describing him as a figure with a distinguished record of national service and leadership.
Highlighting Jaleel’s background, Qasim pointed to his contributions to national defense and his recognition with the Order of Distinguished Military Service (Nishaan Askareege Izzaiy) — one of the country’s highest honours. He also referenced Jaleel’s role during the events of November 3, 1988, when he was among those who stood against the attempted coup in the Maldives.
According to Qasim, Jaleel has consistently demonstrated commitment and integrity throughout his career in public service. He described him as disciplined, experienced, and widely respected, noting that he has carried out responsibilities assigned by successive governments with professionalism.
Qasim further stated that, in his view, Jaleel stands out among candidates in terms of experience, capability, and trustworthiness to lead the capital.
Calling on voters in Malé, Qasim urged the public to support Jaleel in the upcoming election, identifying him as Candidate Number 4 and encouraging those seeking strong leadership for the city to cast their vote in his favour.
The endorsement comes as campaigning intensifies ahead of the Malé City Council elections, with key political figures expressing support for candidates in what is expected to be a closely watched contest.
