“PNC candidates will deliver development,” President Muizzu urges decisive vote

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 4 hours ago

President Mohamed Muizzu has declared that candidates from the People’s National Congress are best positioned to deliver the government’s development agenda, urging citizens to back ruling party representatives in the upcoming April 4 vote.

Speaking at a crowded gathering of supporters at the PNC headquarters, Muizzu said aligned leadership at council level is critical to ensuring that government pledges translate into tangible results for communities across the Maldives.

“The candidates of the government party, PNC, are the ones who will best facilitate the development promised by the government,” he said.

Framing the election as a decisive moment for national progress, the President warned that councils led by opposition figures could obstruct key projects, slowing down service delivery and infrastructure development.

He stressed that councils form a vital part of the executive system, responsible for day-to-day services, and must work in coordination with the central government to achieve results efficiently.

Muizzu also highlighted the broader national vision behind the elections, reiterating his administration’s “nation-first” policy and commitment to long-term development. He pointed to ongoing and planned initiatives that are expected to accelerate in 2025 and 2026, describing the current electoral cycle as essential to sustaining that momentum.

Calling on voters to make informed decisions, the President urged citizens to prioritise development over political divisions, stating that the outcome of the vote would directly impact the country’s future trajectory.

He concluded by expressing confidence that voters would choose candidates who support progress, adding that a strong mandate for PNC would enable the government to deliver on its promises without disruption.
