Call 1655: Free taxi rides across Greater Malé for seven-day trial

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 10 hours ago

Residents in the Greater Malé region can now travel free of charge on the newly launched Malé Taxi Line, as authorities roll out a seven-day trial phase to fine-tune the service before full commercial operations begin.

The initiative, introduced under the direction of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, will provide complimentary rides from April 3 to April 9, following its official inauguration earlier this week. During this period, commuters can access the service at no cost by booking through the dedicated hotline, 1655.

The trial phase is designed to collect public feedback and operational insights to enhance service quality, efficiency, and user experience. Officials emphasized that passenger input during this period will play a critical role in shaping the final structure of the service.

Operated by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company, the Malé Taxi Line is part of a broader effort to modernize urban mobility and address long-standing taxi shortages across the capital region. The service runs 24 hours a day and is powered by a fleet of eco-friendly electric vehicles, marking a shift towards more sustainable transport solutions.

MTCC have assured that all feedback received during the free trial will be carefully reviewed and incorporated to ensure a seamless and reliable service once paid operations commence. The public has been encouraged to actively participate by using the service and sharing their experiences.
