The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) is set to conclude its nationwide election campaign with a major rally in Malé this afternoon, with participation from President Mohamed Muizzu.
The event, branded as the “People’s Grand March,” is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. from the front of the party’s main headquarters. Party officials have called on supporters and the general public to attend in large numbers, describing the gathering as the final push ahead of polling day.
The rally brings to a close a two-month campaign conducted by the PNC across the country, as candidates and party leadership engaged with voters in the lead-up to the elections.
Key Votes Scheduled for Saturday
This Saturday is expected to be a significant day in the Maldivian political calendar, with voters set to participate in three separate ballots:
- Local Council Elections
- Women’s Development Committee (WDC) Elections
- A national referendum on whether future Presidential and Parliamentary elections should be held on the same day
PNC’s Position Ahead of Polls
The PNC is contesting the elections with the largest slate of candidates among competing parties. According to party figures, a number of its candidates have already secured seats uncontested ahead of the official voting day.
With campaigning now entering its final hours, political parties are intensifying efforts to mobilise support, as the country prepares for a series of votes that are expected to shape governance at both local and national levels.
