Fenaka Corporation has confirmed that electricity supply across the connected islands of Addu City has been fully restored following a sudden outage early Friday, while an investigation is now underway into the cause of the disruption.
In an official statement, Fenaka said the power interruption occurred at approximately 1:45 AM, triggering immediate response efforts by technical teams. The issue was resolved within hours, with full service restored later in the morning.
The utility provider revealed that additional matters requiring further investigation were identified during the restoration process. Fenaka stated it is currently working with relevant authorities to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident.
While no official cause has been confirmed, sources familiar with the situation have indicated that suspected sabotage at the central power station is among the lines of investigation being considered. Authorities have yet to verify these claims.
Fenaka apologized to residents of Addu City for the inconvenience caused and reassured customers that sufficient power generation capacity is in place to meet demand without constraints.
The incident has intensified scrutiny over the protection of critical infrastructure, as officials work to determine whether the outage stemmed from technical failure or potential deliberate interference.
