Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced surfer Sayyid Salahudin as the latest recipient of its national Sports Scholarship, a programme designed to support athletes in reaching international standards.
Under the scholarship, Salahudin will undergo training in China, the Philippines, and Indonesia, while also taking part in a competition in Australia. The programme will additionally cover equipment and other support required for both training and competitive events.
International Exposure for Local Talent
The initiative is aimed at providing promising athletes with access to high-performance training environments abroad, helping them develop skills needed to compete at higher levels.
BML administers the scholarship in collaboration with the Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC), which oversees the selection process for eligible athletes.
Continued Investment in Sports
Since its introduction, the scholarship programme has supported eight athletes in their professional development across various disciplines.
The bank has also maintained partnerships with several national sports associations, including those representing football, swimming, tennis, basketball, and surfing, as part of broader efforts to strengthen sports development in the Maldives.
BML’s contribution to the sector has been recognised at the Maldives Sports Awards, where it received a Special Recognition Award from the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation for its role in promoting and supporting athletics nationwide.
Officials say the scholarship reflects ongoing efforts to nurture local talent and provide opportunities for athletes to compete and train on the international stage.
