State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has begun major maintenance work on a key generator in K. Huraa as part of ongoing efforts to improve electricity services on the island.
In a recent update, the company said extensive work is currently being carried out on an 800 kW generator set at the Huraa powerhouse, with the overhaul aimed at enhancing performance and ensuring a more reliable power supply for residents.
The maintenance initiative comes after STELCO assumed responsibility for electricity, water, and sewerage services in Huraa last month, taking over operations from Fenaka Corporation. Since the transition, the company has been undertaking a series of improvements focused on strengthening service delivery and addressing operational challenges.
Officials say the generator overhaul is a key component of these efforts, as the equipment plays a central role in maintaining consistent electricity supply on the island. Upgrading and servicing such infrastructure is expected to reduce the risk of disruptions and improve overall system stability.
STELCO has also engaged with staff on the island to identify areas requiring attention, with a broader goal of raising service standards and ensuring sustainable utility operations.
Authorities have indicated that continued upgrades and maintenance work will be carried out as part of the company’s plans to enhance essential services in Huraa following the recent management transition.
