President Mohamed Muizzu has called for a united national effort to ensure children grow up with strong moral character, Islamic values, and a deep understanding of Maldivian traditions.
In a message shared on the occasion of Children’s Day, the President described the day as an important opportunity to renew commitment toward protecting children’s rights and ensuring they are raised in a safe and supportive environment.
He stressed that children require love, compassion, and guidance as they grow, noting that it is the responsibility of parents, teachers, and the wider community to help shape them into responsible individuals.
“As the children of today are the youth who will lead the nation tomorrow, we must work together to raise them with good character, noble Islamic principles, and Maldivian customs,” the President said.
Muizzu emphasized that providing proper education and upbringing for children is not only the duty of the government, but also a shared responsibility across society. He noted that the administration continues efforts to ensure access to quality education and healthcare, while creating opportunities for every child through the national school system.
The President also highlighted the importance of protecting children from abuse and ensuring safe environments for their development, describing child protection as one of the government’s key policy priorities.
He further warned about emerging threats in the digital world, stating that modern technology and online platforms are exposing some children to serious and potentially irreversible dangers.
“In the online world, new dangers are emerging for children,” the President said, urging parents and educators to adopt new perspectives regarding children’s rights and wellbeing in the digital age.
Muizzu concluded by encouraging collective resilience and cooperation to build a healthier and more responsible future generation for the Maldives.
