President Muizzu to Begin Weekly Public Meetings Next Month

By Hussain Shinan Published 5 hours ago

President Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to begin holding direct public meetings starting next month, as part of efforts to strengthen engagement with citizens across the country.

Speaking at a press conference held at the President’s Office, Muizzu said the meetings would be conducted regularly and would include residents from different areas of Malé as well as communities in the islands.

According to the President, he aims to hold at least one public meeting each week, depending on official schedules and travel commitments.

“If it is in Malé, we will conduct meetings in different districts of the city. Unless there is travel or another scheduling issue, I intend to hold these meetings weekly or as frequently as possible,” he said.

The President added that separate engagement sessions would also be organized with stakeholders from various sectors, including tourism and fisheries, to discuss industry-specific concerns and challenges.

Muizzu further stated that he plans to continue visiting islands throughout the Maldives as part of a pledge to visit every inhabited island at least twice during his term in office. He noted that preparations are underway to begin a second round of island visits, with some islands already having received follow-up visits.

The President described the meetings as an important way to remain closely connected to the public and better understand issues affecting communities directly.

“These meetings help ensure that affairs are being conducted according to the views of the people. There are concerns that do not always reach us directly, and such engagements help address those matters,” he said.

During the press conference, Muizzu also reiterated the government’s commitment to reducing debt burdens inherited from previous administrations, stating that efforts are ongoing to safeguard both the financial stability of citizens and the country’s state assets.
