Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has reaffirmed India’s commitment to the progress and development of the Maldives following official talks with Maldivian Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam.
The meeting took place during Iruthisham’s ongoing official visit to India, which marks her first overseas trip since assuming office as Foreign Minister.
In a post shared on social media after the meeting, Jaishankar described the discussions as productive and said both sides reviewed ongoing bilateral cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
He also underlined India’s “Neighbourhood First” policy, which prioritizes strengthening ties and cooperation with countries in the region.
“Good to meet FM Iruthisham Adam of Maldives on her first official visit to India,” Jaishankar said in the post, adding that India remains committed to supporting the Maldives’ progress and development.
The visit comes amid continued diplomatic engagement between the Maldives and India, with both countries maintaining cooperation across sectors including trade, infrastructure, security, healthcare, and development assistance.
Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Iruthisham’s discussions in India would focus on reviewing bilateral and multilateral relations as well as matters of mutual interest.
