President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has publicly released his asset declaration, in what is being viewed as a step towards greater transparency and public accountability.
The financial disclosure, published by the presidency.gov.mv, outlines the President’s income, property holdings, bank balances and liabilities.
According to the declaration dated May 18, 2026, President Muizzu earned MVR 285,024 in salary over the previous six months. He also reported receiving MVR 240,000 in rental income from a Hulhumalé row house and MVR 180,000 in financial gifts from family members.
The filing further disclosed that First Lady Sajidha Mohamed received a total income of approximately MVR 282,927.30 during the same period. This included MVR 199,999.98 received as the official spouse allowance under Law No. 11/2009, MVR 78,000 in salary from Dhimyath Private Limited, and MVR 4,927.32 as consultancy salary from the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare.
The declaration lists inherited property at M. Dhimaayath, while a Hulhumalé Amber Terrace 2 row house was valued at MVR 5.91 million. The filing also disclosed land in HA. Vashafaru valued at MVR 150,000 and a vehicle worth MVR 260,000. Property received through Hiba was also referenced in the declaration.
Bank balances disclosed under the President’s name totaled nearly MVR 1.9 million across accounts held at Bank of Maldives and Maldives Islamic Bank.
The document also revealed an outstanding liability of MVR 1.31 million owed to Maldives Finance and Leasing Company.
The publication of the declaration reflects President Muizzu’s stated commitment to openness and accountability in public office. Throughout his political career, the President has repeatedly advocated for stronger transparency measures and public disclosure practices within state institutions.
