The Maldives has reiterated its firm support for the One China Principle, reaffirming that it recognises the Government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legitimate government representing all of China.

In a statement issued by the government, the Maldives said its position on the matter remains unchanged and consistent with the policy it has maintained since establishing diplomatic ties with China.

The statement further emphasised that the Maldives considers Taiwan to be an inseparable part of Chinese territory, citing United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 and established principles of international law.

The government noted that, despite increasing global challenges and geopolitical tensions, the Maldives remains committed to upholding its longstanding diplomatic position regarding China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The statement also highlighted the close relationship between the Maldives and China, describing the partnership as one that continues to deepen through cooperation and mutual support.

Officials expressed appreciation for China’s continued assistance toward the Maldives’ socio-economic development, adding that the government looks forward to further strengthening bilateral ties in areas of shared interest.

The Maldives and China have maintained diplomatic relations for decades, with cooperation expanding in recent years across infrastructure, trade, tourism and development sectors. The government said future collaboration would continue to be guided by shared goals of peace, stability and mutual benefit.
