President Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Dr. Mohamed Mahid Shareef as the Principal Secretary to the President on Citizens’ Complaints at the President’s Office.
According to the President’s Office, Dr. Mahid was appointed to the minister-level post on May 18.
The appointment comes as part of the government’s efforts to establish a dedicated Citizens’ Complaints Bureau aimed at strengthening public engagement and improving the state’s response to citizen concerns.
The President’s Office stated that the bureau was created to ensure the administration remains closely connected to the public and operates by actively listening to citizens.
The new office will provide a 24-hour service allowing members of the public to submit complaints and concerns through multiple channels.
Officials said the bureau will operate using a digital system integrated with Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to process complaints, gather information from relevant authorities and provide quicker responses to public grievances.
A 24-hour call centre is also expected to be established under the initiative.
President Muizzu had earlier announced plans to establish the office during this year’s Presidential Address.
Dr. Mahid previously served in several senior government and institutional positions, including Permanent Secretary roles in various ministries and Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM).
Prior to his latest appointment, he was serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives (CA Maldives).
According to the President’s Office, Dr. Mahid holds a Doctor of Business Administration degree as well as a Master’s degree in Public Sector Management.
The establishment of the Citizens’ Complaints Bureau forms part of broader government efforts to improve public service accessibility and responsiveness through the use of modern digital systems and administrative reforms.
