New Face of Maldives Police: Superintendent Arif Appointed Spokesperson

By Hussain Shinan Published June 7, 2026

The Maldives Police Service has appointed Superintendent of Police Arif as its new official spokesperson, placing him in charge of the institution’s media relations and public communications.

In a statement released on Saturday, police confirmed that Superintendent Arif officially assumed the role with immediate effect, replacing Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan, who previously served as the force’s spokesperson.

With the appointment, Arif will become the primary point of contact between the Maldives Police Service and the media, overseeing the dissemination of information related to police operations, investigations, public safety matters and institutional affairs.

Police said the change is part of the organization’s ongoing administrative arrangements and communication efforts.

The spokesperson’s office plays a key role within the Maldives Police Service, particularly during major investigations, national security incidents, public awareness campaigns and emergency situations. The position is responsible for providing timely information to the public, addressing media inquiries and communicating official updates on behalf of the institution.

Assistant Commissioner Ahmed Shifan had served as police spokesperson during several high-profile investigations and public safety operations, regularly representing the institution at press briefings and media engagements.

While police have not disclosed additional details regarding the transition, officials stated that Superintendent Arif will now lead all official communications and media-related activities moving forward.

The Maldives Police Service has in recent years expanded its public communication efforts through regular press briefings, social media engagement and public awareness campaigns aimed at strengthening transparency and community relations.

Authorities say effective communication remains an important component of modern policing, helping ensure accurate information reaches the public while supporting trust and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
