President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the President’s Office and all government ministries have achieved 100 percent compliance with the proactive disclosure requirements of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, marking what he described as a historic first for the Maldives since the law came into force in 2014.
In a statement shared on social media on Monday, President Muizzu said the milestone represents a major step forward in strengthening transparency, public access to information and government accountability.
According to the President, information that was previously inaccessible to the public has now been made available through proactive disclosure measures. He noted that transparency is not merely a policy objective, but a fundamental democratic principle that supports public trust and informed civic participation.
The achievement follows recent updates from the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), which reported that the President’s Office and all 16 ministries had met the minimum proactive disclosure requirements. Previous assessments showed an average compliance rate of 34 percent, while the latest review recorded full compliance across all government institutions assessed.
President Muizzu praised public officials and institutions whose efforts contributed to reaching the target, describing the accomplishment as an important milestone in the country’s journey toward a more open and accountable government.
He also reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to further improving public access to government information through digital platforms and continued transparency initiatives aimed at increasing citizen engagement in governance and decision-making.
