President Congratulates Modi on Historic Political Milestone

By Hussain Shinan Published 4 hours ago

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has extended congratulations to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he achieved a historic political milestone by becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister in terms of consecutive days in office.

In a message shared on his official X account, President Muizzu conveyed his warm wishes to Modi, recognizing the landmark achievement in Indian political history.

The President also used the occasion to reaffirm the Maldives’ commitment to maintaining and strengthening its relationship with India, emphasizing the importance of cooperation based on mutual respect, sovereign equality and shared interests.

“Warm congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister in consecutive service,” the President said in his message.

The milestone further cements Modi’s place among the most influential political figures in modern India. Having first assumed office in May 2014, Modi has now surpassed previous records for uninterrupted service by an elected Indian Prime Minister.

India remains one of the Maldives’ closest regional partners, with the two countries maintaining long-standing cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including trade, infrastructure development, healthcare, education, security and people-to-people exchanges.

Relations between Malé and New Delhi have seen increased engagement in recent years, with both governments repeatedly emphasizing the importance of maintaining strong bilateral ties while respecting each other’s sovereignty and national interests.

Since taking office in November 2023, President Muizzu has reiterated that the Maldives seeks constructive relationships with all international partners, including neighboring India. Both countries have continued to engage through high-level diplomatic exchanges and cooperation initiatives.

The President’s congratulatory message comes at a time when India continues to play a significant role in regional affairs and remains one of the Maldives’ key development and economic partners.

Political observers note that Modi’s latest milestone reflects more than a decade of continuous leadership in the world’s largest democracy, a period marked by major economic, political and foreign policy developments in India.

President Muizzu’s message highlighted the Maldives’ desire to further deepen cooperation with India and continue working together on areas of mutual benefit for both countries.
