11-Storey Creator Hub to Open This November

By Hussain Shinan Published 7 hours ago

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the government’s flagship Creator Hub project will be completed and opened by Republic Day, marking a major step in efforts to build a sustainable creative economy in the Maldives.

The President made the announcement while speaking at the ceremony held to launch PayPal services in the Maldives, where he highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at creating new opportunities for artists, content creators, entrepreneurs and creative professionals.

According to President Muizzu, construction of the Creator Hub building in Malé is progressing steadily and is expected to be ready for inauguration on November 11, Republic Day. Once operational, the facility will offer modern production studios, collaborative workspaces and a range of resources designed to support the country’s growing creative sector.

The Creator Hub forms part of a broader government strategy to diversify the economy by expanding opportunities beyond traditional sectors such as tourism and fisheries. The initiative was launched following Cabinet-level discussions on developing a creative economy capable of generating new income streams and employment opportunities for young Maldivians.

Government officials have described the 11-storey facility as a dedicated center where creative professionals can develop their talents, collaborate on projects and access infrastructure that is often difficult to obtain independently.

The project is being overseen by the Business Center Corporation (BCC), which has been conducting consultations and stakeholder forums to ensure the facility meets the practical needs of creators working across various industries, including digital media, design, filmmaking, music, animation and other creative fields.

President Muizzu also highlighted parallel efforts to connect traditional Maldivian craftsmanship with global markets through digital platforms and modern business opportunities.

As part of that initiative, the government is establishing a specialized lacquer work training center in B. Thulhaadhoo, an island renowned for its centuries-old lacquer craft tradition. Plans are also underway to develop a dedicated creative crafts hub in GDh. Gadhdhoo to support artisans and cultural industries.

The President said these investments are intended to help preserve Maldivian cultural heritage while creating pathways for local products and creative services to reach international audiences.

The announcement comes at a time when the government is placing increased emphasis on digital entrepreneurship and creative industries, particularly following the official launch of PayPal services in the Maldives. Officials believe improved access to international payment systems, combined with infrastructure such as the Creator Hub, will allow local creators to participate more actively in the global digital economy.

President Muizzu concluded by encouraging Maldivians to take advantage of the opportunities being created, stating that local talent has the potential to establish a strong presence in international markets if provided with the right tools, facilities and support.

With less than five months remaining until Republic Day, the Creator Hub is expected to become one of the most significant additions to the country’s creative and entrepreneurial landscape when it opens later this year.
