President Unveils Vision for Modern Police Facilities Nationwide

By Hussain Shinan Published 5 hours ago

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to modernize the Maldives Police Service’s infrastructure, including the construction of a new state-of-the-art Police Headquarters and the completion of police stations across the country.

Speaking at the official ceremony marking the 93rd anniversary of the Maldives Police Service, the President said strengthening the country’s policing infrastructure remains a key priority of his administration, with efforts focused on improving both working conditions for officers and services delivered to the public.

He noted that the police, as one of the government’s frontline public institutions, have undergone significant development over the past two and a half years. However, he acknowledged that several legal and infrastructure-related challenges continue to affect the delivery of policing services.

According to the President, a comprehensive assessment has already been conducted to identify these challenges, and the government is committed to implementing the reforms and improvements requested by the police service.

One of the major projects announced is the development of a modern Police Headquarters in Malé. President Muizzu said the existing headquarters no longer provides sufficient space for the institution’s growing operational needs.

“The current headquarters is located in a very limited space. God willing, we will build a modern, spacious and fully equipped Police Headquarters that meets the highest standards,” he said.

In addition to upgrading the main headquarters, the President revealed plans to expand policing facilities in the Greater Malé Region, where demand for police services continues to increase alongside rapid population growth.

As part of these efforts, the government plans to construct the second building of Iskandharu Koshi while also developing a large, modern police facility in Hulhumalé Phase II to strengthen operational capacity in the capital region.

The President also said work is progressing on new police stations across the islands and expressed confidence that the administration’s target of completing those projects by next year will be achieved.

He added that improving police infrastructure is part of a broader effort to enhance public safety and ensure officers have the resources needed to serve communities more effectively.

President Muizzu also praised the Maldives Police Service for carrying out its duties professionally and maintaining national stability. He said the institution’s success in addressing crime and social issues has been possible because it operates independently of political influence.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to the police service, the President pledged continued support to strengthen the institution through legislative reforms, improved infrastructure and increased operational capacity.

The Maldives Police Service was established in 1932 and marks its 93rd anniversary this year. Over the decades, the institution has expanded its presence across the country as policing needs have grown alongside the nation’s population and development.
