The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has given prospective applicants more time to apply for its higher education scholarship programme, extending the application deadline until July 15.
The extension provides additional opportunities for Maldivians seeking to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies at selected universities in Malaysia under a fully funded scholarship scheme.
The application period was originally scheduled to close tomorrow. However, an MMA official confirmed on Monday that interested candidates will now have until mid-July to submit their applications.
This year’s scholarship programme covers studies at the Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD levels in fields linked to finance, economics and law.
Available programmes include a Bachelor of Accounting (Honours), various Master of Laws (LLM) specialisations, a Master’s degree in Economics, and PhD programmes in Islamic Finance and other related disciplines.
According to the MMA, applicants will be assessed based on academic performance and their ability to meet the programme’s eligibility requirements. The authority noted that scholarships will be formally awarded once applicants secure admission to their respective universities.
Successful candidates will receive a comprehensive scholarship package covering tuition fees and all compulsory university charges.
In addition, recipients will be provided with a monthly living allowance, book allowance, establishment allowance and departure allowance. The package also includes health insurance coverage and funding for student visa expenses, easing the financial burden associated with studying overseas.
The scholarship programme forms part of the MMA’s continued efforts to strengthen the country’s financial sector by investing in the development of highly qualified professionals. Through advanced education and specialised training, the central bank aims to help build local expertise in key areas that support the long-term growth and stability of the Maldivian economy.
The authority has encouraged eligible students and professionals interested in furthering their education to submit their applications before the revised deadline.
