A newly installed 600kW generator has restored uninterrupted electricity services to residents of L. Hithadhoo after a generator failure caused a temporary island-wide power outage.
According to Fenaka Corporation, the disruption began yesterday evening when one of the island’s two main 600kW generators suffered a mechanical fault. The failure forced the entire electricity load onto the remaining generator, which also went offline, resulting in a total blackout.
Fenaka said engineers restarted the second generator within about 15 minutes, allowing electricity to be restored gradually across different parts of the island through a shared supply system while repair efforts continued.
The utility confirmed that teams worked through the night to install and commission a brand-new 600kW generator. Full electricity services were restored across L. Hithadhoo by this morning.
The newly commissioned generator is part of a batch of new units recently procured by Fenaka under a special initiative aimed at strengthening reliable and sustainable electricity services across the Maldives.
Fenaka said the installation has resolved the issue, adding that there are currently no operational challenges in providing electricity to L. Hithadhoo.
