Boduthakurufaanu Magu makeover nears finish with asphalt works completed

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 3 hours ago

All asphalt paving has been completed under the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project on the northern side of Malé, with the project now entering its final phase ahead of the Independence Day completion target.

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) said work is progressing rapidly on the second and third segments, where crews are developing parking areas, laying pavement tiles and installing cable trenches. These activities are expected to be completed within the coming week.

MTCC added that road marking and the raising of junction manholes in the remaining sections will begin this week as the contractor prepares to complete the project by July 26.

The redevelopment project, launched in August 2024, includes 737 metres of sheet piling and the widening of one of the capital’s busiest roads. Once completed, the upgraded road is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve accessibility and create additional parking spaces for nearby government offices, banks and businesses.

Previously completed sections near Izzudheen Jetty and the Local Market have already been opened to the public, helping to reduce congestion in those areas.

The Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment forms part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to modernise Malé’s road network by improving accessibility, easing traffic flow and upgrading urban infrastructure to better serve residents, commuters and businesses across the capital.
